"How bad do you really want it?"
Man, that I such a good question. I love seeing how this manifests itself specifically in sports. You can just tell by how players and teams play. "They won because they wanted it more."
But what is the question really asking? It asking, what are you willing to sacrifice in order to gain whatever you desire.
Sacrifice is extremely overlooked when it comes to setting goals and achieving our wants and desires. "So you set a goal to work 3 times a week this year? Cool. What are you sacrificing to achieve this goal? Time with family? Sleep? Social life?" Why is this never talked about? I'm going to keep this part short because I think you get the gist. If you going to go after something in life and pursue it, what are you willing to sacrifice in order to achieve such pursuit?
My favorite example of this is actually Thanos in Avengers End Game. I was actually toying with this idea when I saw this movie and oooooooohhhh man the manifestation. Such brilliance. In the movie Thanos believes he has to get all the super hero stones in order to bring the galaxy to balance. WHAT A BELIEF. Guys. This is the moth. He believes in this ideology so hard. His faith is so strong. He is willing to do anything to achieve this desire and to do what he believes is good. This also makes for the best villains. Ones that believe they are the ones doing good or blur the lines between what is good and evil. Thanos does have a flaw though. The idea that in order to bring the world to balance he has to randomly wipe off half the population just doesn't match up with economic sense. And that is where Thanos does the moth wrong. He is going after what he finds to be the most meaningful thing in life, but he does not consider that he may be wrong. Because if he is wrong then he killed millions trillions of life forms no reason. This is actually what makes him a villain. Funny huh? We've gone full circle now.
But besides the point, the beauty of the movie is how Thanos is willing to sacrifice so much to do what he believes in. He is willing to spend his whole life \building up an army, fighting off avengers, and even killing have the universes population all to do what he believes is good. The most pinnacle part of this whole movie is when he is even willing to sacrifice his own daughter he loves to gain his last space stone. The stone he needs to complete his task. It comes with tears, but he still chooses to go through with it. Kill the one thing he loved. Why?
OKAY THIS IS WHEN LIFE GETS CRAZY.
GUYS HOW MUCH ARE WILLING TO SACRIFICE IN ORDER TO GET TO WHERE YOU WANT?
We all deal with this. We all know someone who gave up their dream to spend time with a girl. Or went to a different college. Thanos was willing to risk the one thing he loved for something greater! A higher purpose. Now we're back to the moth. If you can find what that most meaningful thing you do is, you have found your purpose. Go after that thing that you willing to sacrifice everything for. If you are not willing to sacrifice that person you love most for it, it is not worth pursuing.
I have come to the conclusion that this thing is usually some sort of career type passion. Some kind of work responsibility that gives you this meaning. I mean theres a reason we wake up every morning. We sacrifice the chance to sleep in for something greater. We might not know what that is, but we know it is out there. I do think you can reach the point where your passion is less desirable. Your kids become everything. But it does come back to the moth. You are not sure which one is the moon. But which one can you live with knowing it may be a light? That is the fine in between.
I came across this idea finishing college. I was a successful kid, but I had quite a few friends who were above and beyond. They receive awards and accolades for having the best grades and being the most athletic or having the best leadership skills. But these were also the friends who were always busy. Never having time to operatically do actives. No random late night shenanigans with them. They had stuff they had to be at every morning. A's to get on tests. Meanwhile, I got no fancy awards. I got my diploma and managed to graduate debt free. But I never went out of my way to ensure I got an A in a class. I did not see the point in achieving a letter that comes early in the alphabet when I could be successful without one. BUT I did see a point in getting late night ice cream with my friend who has been struggling to get through the week. Allowing her to vent with me and me giving her all my honest thoughts and opinions. I saw the value in enjoy my college years staying up too late with roommates just to talk about girls we were in love with playing video games. That was purpose to me. That was meaning to me. And when the same friends was hanging told me they couldn't hang with my other friends who seemed to be "always busy" (because they were) even though they could have really used their presence. That struck me. Like why are we even here? What are we really going after? Do these friends matter? Am I so looking into the future that I am worried about my career for my family I do not know yet or the husband I do not have? What if I die tomorrow? Would I be okay knowing I wasn't there? Those are tough questions girl. I don't have answer for you. Either does google. Not your mom. Not Siri. Just you. They can offer advice, but at the end of the day you have to decide what you are willing to sacrifice to gain what you want to achieve. Good luck
love you always
